Little Church Lane

Little Church Lane or Church Lane (South) as it was previously called, is an interesting cul de sac of former farms and the derelict site of former cottages called Angel Yard.

As the street name suggests, these properties abutted upon the churchyard and make up some of the oldest existing houses in the village. Number 33 'Church Farm' is probably the oldest domestic property still standing in Sileby, with only the parish church surpassing it in age.

Up until the early 1970s these farms were complemented by 'Angel Yard', a small complex of about 15 cottages dating from perhaps the 17th century, possibly later. Cellars near here were found carved out of the existing rock, and artefacts found in them were said to date from the 17th century.

After the cottages were demolished the land has been used as a paddock.
