ERNEST PARKINSON

1894 - 1978
Ernest William Parkinson was born on the 28th April 1894, son to John Edward Parkinson, a butcher and Annie his wife. He became a chartered architect and surveyor, and later established his own practice, E.W. Parkinson and Dodson, on Pocklington's Walk, Leicester in 1930. He designed a number of houses in the village and also Sileby's war memorials. He served as an army officer in World War One and a lawyer in the RAF for the Second World War. Ernest was an all rounder in the truest sense, achieving much in local political and sporting spheres. He married Adeline (nee Giles) in 1936, and together immersed themselves in village life, living on Cossington Road and later at Charnwood House on Barrow Road.
Ernest's achievements are varied and many, some of which are listed here:
- A member of Sileby Parish Council for over 50 years (starting in 1921), serving as chairman 5 times

- A County Alderman in recognition of his extensive service
- Founder member, Chairman and President of Sileby British Legion
